GEO guide

Generative Engine Optimisation, explained simply.

GEO is the work of making online information easier for generative search and answer systems to discover, understand, evaluate and potentially use when building a response.

GEO does not replace SEO

Strong GEO starts with the same fundamentals that make a page useful in search: technical access, clear intent, useful content, trust and authority. It adds emphasis on source clarity, direct answers, evidence and how well a system can understand the page in context.

Clear entity

State who is speaking, what the business does and how related pages connect.

Useful evidence

Support important claims with original data, credible sources, examples and transparent limitations.

Strong retrieval foundations

Use crawlable links, sensible canonicals, accurate sitemaps and indexable text.

GEO versus SEO

SEO and GEO overlap heavily. SEO remains the foundation for Google Search, while GEO is a useful broader label for work intended to improve source visibility and usefulness across generative experiences.
