1. Match a real question
Start with a question customers actually ask, such as cost, suitability, requirements, process, comparison, timing or risk.
AEO is the work of making information easy to understand, verify and use when a search or AI system needs to answer a specific question.

Strong AEO content gives the useful answer early, then adds context, evidence, limitations and a clear next step. It works alongside SEO and AI SEO rather than replacing them.
A page should not become a collection of isolated one-line answers. The direct answer is the starting point; the surrounding explanation is what makes the answer accurate, useful and trustworthy.

Start with a question customers actually ask, such as cost, suitability, requirements, process, comparison, timing or risk.
State the conclusion clearly near the top instead of hiding it behind a long introduction.
Explain when the answer applies, what changes it, important exceptions and what the reader should consider next.
Use real evidence, first-party examples, authoritative sources or transparent methodology when the answer depends on factual claims.
Use descriptive internal links so the reader and crawler can move from the answer to definitions, comparisons, evidence and next steps.
Write for the person completing a task. AEO should improve clarity, not turn natural content into robotic fragments.
“There are many factors to consider when choosing the right service.”
“Choose the service that matches your actual problem, budget, evidence requirements and implementation capacity.” Then explain each factor, show examples, identify limitations and link to the next useful page.
The second version helps a reader immediately while still leaving room for the depth required to make the answer accurate.
Supports discovery, indexing, relevance, ranking and overall search performance.
Emphasises answer clarity, context and usefulness for a specific question.
Emphasises source usefulness, evidence and visibility in generative search experiences.
A good page can support all three at once. It can be technically sound for SEO, answer-first for AEO and evidence-rich enough to be a useful source in generative systems.
Google's current guidance for generative AI features says established SEO best practices remain relevant. There is no special AEO markup required for Google AI Overviews or AI Mode. The useful AEO lesson is therefore about content quality and answer clarity, not a hidden technical trick.
